IPMS NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS

A shared passion. Every kind of model.

A community for modelers of all ages, interests, and skill levels.

Welcome to our chapter

Whether you are building your first model or have enjoyed the hobby for decades, there is a place for you at IPMS North Central Texas.

As a chapter of the International Plastic Modelers’ Society, we celebrate the creativity, craftsmanship, and enjoyment of scale modeling in all its forms—from aircraft, armor, automobiles, and ships to science fiction, spacecraft, Gundam, and figures.

We share knowledge, exchange ideas, develop skills, and inspire the next generation of builders. No experience is necessary; just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm.

Chapter history

The history of IPMS/NCT is aligned with the history of IPMS/USA as they began at the same time from the vision of the founding father of our society. In 1964, Jim Sage was corresponding with a group of British modelers about forming a modeling society. In one of the letters Jim suggested naming the group “The International Plastic Modelers Society” instead of “The British Plastic Modeling Society” and it was agreed upon. Jim went to work forming IPMS/USA and setting up chapters across the country. Mr. Sage did not formally register NCT as the first chapter—that honor went to Seattle. It was in late 1964 that the North Central Texas chapter was formally chartered.

The first NCT club meetings were held at Jim’s house in Dallas. Eventually the membership outgrew Jim’s house and meetings were moved to the Coca Cola plant near Love Field Airport. The club met there for a number of years. These meetings had guest speakers and quarterly contests as well as the usual film and slide shows plus the added perk of free Cokes.

After a series of moves to other locations around the Dallas area for club meetings, NCT was very fortunate to strike up a partnership with Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field in 2025 where the current chapter meets. The irony of meeting again not one-half mile from where we started in the mid-sixties was not lost upon the members.

In 1976 IPMS/NCT hosted the IPMS/USA National Convention and later hosted the National Convention again in 2000. But most prominently NCT has been active in hosting a local contest and vendor show every spring called ScaleFest.

The first ScaleFest was in 1985 and was started in conjunction with Squadron Hobbies and ran for several years until Squadron relocated out of the Dallas area in 2021. As of 2026 the chapter is working to build ScaleFest bigger and better with more partnerships.

We are always looking for new creative ways to enjoy our mutual hobby across all the different subjects in Aircraft, Armor, Auto, Figures, Ships, SciFi, Space, Dioramas and Gunpla. Come to our meetings or follow us on-line, there are great times ahead for our club: North Central Texas – the Birthplace of IPMS/USA.
